Ps2 game error g22

I can play original ps2 games from the disk but I can't play saved ps2 games. A while back I installed the ps2 classics and was able to play the backups but not any more. When launching the controller looses sync and I get error code f I also cannot seem to get gamedata mode to change to see usb drive although ps3 games play fine from it.
